Respond to two peers discussion post

Respond to two peers discussion post.

I’m working on a Psychology exercise and need support.

I will be posting the directions given by instructor on Discussion post. This will help you understand what my peers responses are. You are to respond to the TWO peers I have chosen. You must respond seperately to each post. I will also want to remind you that you wrote my discussion post. As I am mentioning this because you will have to respond to those who have responded to my post. Must be 200 words response. ALL responses must be different and not the same. Thanks.

Discussion Post Directions Below

For this discussion, you will complete two parts:

Advancement in Research Findings; Staying Up-To-Date in Your Field

Part 1

  • Identify two major topics associated with child and adolescent psychology and summarize what you have learned about these topics.
  • Identify two majors topics associated with industrial/organizational psychology and summarize what you have learned about these topics.

Part 2

  • Using the topics from Part 1, choose one and locate a scholarly article (dated between 2016 and 2019) that shares recent findings in this domain.
  • Clearly summarize the findings in your own words. (Do not copy and paste.)
  • Cite the information you share, after you have summarized.
  • Critically consider how these findings may be important to your knowledge development.
  • Discuss why it is important to stay up to date on research findings that are associated with your chosen field (child and adolescent psychology or industrial/organizational psychology) of expertise.
  • Download the article that you found in the library and attach to your discussion.
  • Be sure to list your references at the end of the discussion in APA format.

PEER 1

One topic of interest under child and adolescent psychology I read was the language barriers of bilingual children. There are difficulties socially in regards to communication with peers and teachers as well as not being able to understand the language on standardized tests and state tests. This leads to academic struggles, social struggles as well as language barriers. The number of students that English is not their first language surprised me (I realize that this may not be the case in some cities that are bigger, but I am from a small town where it is not often to hear someone speak another language). Individualized teaching strategies help with this issue but it seems that there needs to be more done to help (Harper, et al., 2020).

I also found parent-adolescent conflict and teen isolation interesting. (I have a child on the verge of becoming a teen so this topic piqued my interest). It is common to think that a teen barricading themselves in their room is normal but Harper, et al. (2020), tells us that this is not the case. Some conflict within a family is normal, healthy even but to straight out drop all family communication and interaction is not how it is supposed to be. Harper et al. (2020) states “The parent-child attachment remains especially important during this time, as this foundational relationship serves as a framework for future relationships outside of the family” (section 7.2). Teens have to have positive, healthy interaction with family, especially parents, to be able to conduct themselves in a manner that is socially acceptable and to form friendships knowing what is and is not acceptable in relationships.

For Industrial psychology (I/O), those who are the industrial psychologists help train professionals develop skills to enhance employee motivation. Because of the different types of learning styles, managers and supervisors need to be able to help their employees in different ways and motivate them differently. When employees are successful and satisfied, the organization does better as a whole. Employees who feel appreciated, competent, who like what they are doing, and feel as if they belong to a group or team do much better than those that do not have a sense of belonging or satisfaction. There is a list of theories that could be applied to help improve the skills and motivation of employees, professionals just need to figure out which one or ones work best (Harper, et al., 2020).

I/O psychology also describes why it is important to have job analysis. To find the right fit for the employee, or to find the right employee for the job, it is pertinent to figure out exactly which skills are needed to do such jobs. All aspects of a job are considered when an analysis is done. This includes all tasks, what is required from the employee, location of the job, what knowledge and skills are needed as well as things such as if a vehicle or certain license is needed (Harper et al., 2020). From this analysis, professionals can determine who would be the best fit for this specific job. END OF PEER 1 POST

PEER TWO

Part 1

  • Identify two major topics associated with child and adolescent psychology and summarize what you have learned about these topics.
  • Topic 1: Cognitive development: This topic consists of a person’s “sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational” skills. (Harper, Rosser-Majors, Anderson, Brewer, Kirwan, Lozano, Vincent, 2020, p. 7.1). Basically this domain is how a child (progressively into an adult) processes information through touch and simple interactions.
  • Topic 2: Socioemotional development: This is in terms of the relationships we form over the course of our lives beginning in the child and adolescent years where we are taught at a young age how to interact with people in the infancy stage progressively into an adult stage. This topic is important because it’s one of three domains that make up the “whole person” concept. Our relationships can shape our personalities from the beginning and influence our thoughts and actions as we grow older.
  • Identify two majors topics associated with industrial/organizational psychology and summarize what you have learned about these topics.
  • Topic 1: The Hawthorne Effect within I/O Psychology is where a test subject or test group is being monitored and that subject or group is either aware of not of being monitored and their behavior either changes or is an organic sample of behavior. For example, the “placebo” affect comes into play. If you tell someone that a drug is meant to cure a headache, but the drug is actually a “fake pill” but the subject believes it to be effective they may exhibit signs of healing if you will due to their mindset. If they know that the drug is in fact fake, they know and will not show and signs of improvement. Same concept in a work center. If a group of employees knows they are being monitored for production levels, they may work more diligently to show they are working at a specific level or rate instead of acting “natural” in their typical day-to-day.
  • Topic 2: Effective training and development: This topic is indeed important in the I/O Psychology scope. This topic has two parts. You have the training piece where an employee is trained on the basic knowledge and directions to perform the task/responsibilities at hand. Development is where you refine said basic skills learned through training to improve one’s knowledge and production to as we say in the military maybe “work smarter not harder.”

Part 2

  • Using the topics from Part 1, choose one and locate a scholarly article (dated between 2016 and 2019) that shares recent findings in this domain.
  • I searched within the Ashford Library and found this article titled: Play in the Preschool Classroom: Its Socioemotional Significance and the Teacher’s Role in Play
  • Clearly summarize the findings in your own words.
  • This article covers and explains how play in the early childhood classrooms is important in a child’s development beginning at the infancy stage. Developmentally, socioemotional psychology “in sociodramatic play, a child’s capacities to reflect before acting, sense the perspective and emotional experiences of others, and self-regulate emotional experiences are enhanced.” (Ashiabi, G., 2007, p. 203) In simple terms, this means that a child benefits from socioemotional focused play because it allows for a child to determine how they control their emotions given any situation. How they should adjust vs. how they shouldn’t, and what level of reaction is appropriate to what level of action or situation.
  • Critically consider how these findings may be important to your knowledge development.
  • Knowledge of these topics are important in my own knowledge development because knowing the history and diversity in topics can be beneficial when treating a variety of clients. Each client will of course have a different situation and understanding the different developmental pieces can allow me to dissect where a patient/client began from the infancy stage to understand how to trace them to their adulthood and aid in giving the person an accurate diagnosis and then go onto an effective treatment plan.
  • Discuss why it is important to stay up to date on research findings that are associated with your chosen field (child and adolescent psychology or industrial/organizational psychology) of expertise.
  • It is imperative for all in the psychology career field especially focused on child/adolescent psychology and I/O psychology because times are always changing. Children are exposed to more technology and different things that we as parents were not and we have to be able to adapt with our children as their maturity level is at a different level than we were in any capacity. There are things we did as children that was acceptable that wasn’t back than and we were taught and trusted in things that even I don’t trust my child to do now like walk down the street to a friend’s house alone. As far as I/O Psychology, the work force is constantly adapting so to be able to understand the effects of how technology is taking over the work force and how it’s affecting employees psychologically will help develop an existing team or improve the training process.
