Being an Emergency Room Nurse, I have experienced a greater number of people who visit the emergency room with flu-like symptoms and also tested positive for the influenza disease.
Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Prevention of Influenza
A primary prevention of influenza will be to get immunized with the vaccine thus by getting the flu shot yearly as recommended, wearing of a mask, and performing hand hygiene when around an infected person (CDC, 2003). A secondary prevention will be screening or getting tested for influenza and receiving treatment such medication example Tamiflu and hydration to reduce the severity of the disease. Tertiary prevention will be to maintain compliance of interventional treatment, such as resting enough and staying well hydrated to prevent complications of influenza such sinus infections, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
